Murray’s Little Miss enjoying her role
When Breann Burningham was announced as the winner of the Little Miss Murray contest during the Miss Murray pageant last September, she didn’t know what to expect. But the last seven months have been full of fun and community service for the 9-year-old Horizon Elementary School student.
She has participated in the Taste of Murray, the Veteran’s Day Parade, the Christmas Tree Lighting with Santa and the Murray Fun Days Parade. Breann’s mom, Brandy, said her daughter has had some great experiences, and loves working with Miss Murray 2012 Shannon Oveson.
“Shannon’s been darling with her,” Burningham said. “The favorite thing for me has been to watch their interaction.”
Now, Breann is busy helping Oveson prepare for the Miss Utah competition in June. Breann will perform a dance with Miss Murray during the pageant, and come on stage during the evening gown portion of the competition. She’s even considering competing for her own Miss Murray title one day.
“I think it would be a lot of fun,” Breann said. “I’m smart, nice, pretty, talented and athletic. And I’m a good friend.”
Breann’s cousin was the very first Little Miss Murray, and Breann thought it looked like a lot of fun. She heard about the contest at her school, and decided to enter. Breann has some advice for young girls who might enter the Little Miss Murray contest this year.
“Include lots of pictures in your submission,” she says. “I drew nine pictures as part of my entry.”
Burningham describes her daughter as spunky, full of laughter, a great ballet and jazz dancer, and a great artist. She is also enrolled in the Spanish dual-immersion program at her school. Burningham feels her daughter has learned a lot during the last few months. And Oveson has thoroughly enjoyed working with Breann during her year as Miss Murray.
“She is the cutest little girl, and she has so much spunk,” Oveson said. “She has been the greatest Little Miss. She’s so excited.”
