Intermountain Orthopedic and Spine Therapy Clinic is part of the new campus for the Intermountain Medical Center, 5171 South Cottonwood Street, Suite 820. Post surgical orthopedic patients come to this clinic for ongoing care. The clinic also attracts patients who suffer from spinal, upper and lower limb dysfunction.

The clinic is known for its services for women's health, particularly with women who are pregnant or have recently given birth. No matter what the patient's individuals needs may be, Director Jake Magel, PT DSC, says his team of physical therapists provides the highest standard of service to help patients get on the road to recovery.

"Patients can expect to be treated with compassion and interest," Jake says. "We utilize hands-on care that is based on most recent scientific evidence care for their individual problem."

Jake also serves as the vice president of the American Academy of Orthopedic and Manual Physical Therapists. He is on a committee to promote education and research for physical therapists. This affiliation ensures the therapists at his clinic also get continued education.

"On a monthly basis they receive high quality evidence-based education programs which improve the quality of care we deliver to our patients," he says.

Susan McLaughlin is just one of the highly skilled physical therapists on staff. She brings services to the clinic that are unique and difficult to find in the valley, working with patients who suffer from urinary or fecal incontinence and pelvic pain.

"These are common issues that often go without being addressed," Jake says. "People sometimes are embarrassed about this condition and physicians don't know there are these resources available."

Randy Dow has 39 years of experience and is widely consulted for his expertise on issues related to soft tissue dysfunction. He works on trigger points where the muscle is overactive. Jake says this is very common in the neck and shoulders of individuals who sit at a computer or have a sedentary lifestyle or job. Physicians are familiar with Randy's work and refer patients to him due to his expertise.

The clinic's dynamic staff also includes Nicole Hansen, Lyndsey Lords, Jaynette Robison and Jocelyn Woods.

"Each of our physical therapists offers unique skills," says Brad Zollinger, Intermountain Medical Center's director of Rehabilitation Services. "This clinic will provide expert, convenient care for employees and patients who need physical therapy on an outpatient basis."

Individuals who have insurance through Intermountain Healthcare can get immediate relief and do not need a doctor's referral before coming in.
