
Sparse year for Spartans in cross country finals
The cross country season ended for Murray on Oct. 19, when state finals were held at Sugar House Park. The Spartans did not qualify teams in either division, though five Murray runners did qualify individually.
In boys’ competition, the top Spartan finisher was junior Jeff Hunter, who took 51st place in a time of 17:06 for the three-mile course. The race was won by Jacob Heslington of Timpanogos in a time of 15:39.5. Senior Josh Walker was 117th at 18:35.9, and junior Parker Schofield placed 118th at 18:39.3. Mountain View won the boys’ team title.
Sophomore Angie Nickerson was the top girls’ finisher for Murray, taking home 76th place at 21:13.1. The race was one by Kelsey Braithwaite of Box Elder at 17:36.4. Murray sophomore Genevieve Harmon finished in 90th place in a time of 21:46.6. Mountain View also won the team title in this division.
