Desert Star offering holiday show

There’s no place like Desert Star Playhouse for the holidays. Each year, this family-friendly theatre presents an original Christmas production. This year’s offering is “It’s A Wonderful Life: Winging in The Holidays.” This heartwarming holiday comedy will play on both Desert Star stages through Dec. 31.

If you think you’ve seen “Its A Wonderful Life,” think again.  You’ve never seen anything like this brand new musical parody of the holiday movie classic. The story now takes place in modern day, with flashbacks to 70‘s, 80‘s and 90‘s. Johnny Angel, a biker angel from the ‘50s, is sent down from heaven to help George Bailey, whose life has reached a crisis. George is shown by Johnny Angel what the world would be like if he’d never been born.  

And Johnny doesn’t stop at just helping George. He also gives the audience a glimpse into the past of Henry Potter, George’s arch nemesis, as he tries to convince Potter to have a change of heart. There are also some zany new characters and unique twists on this holiday story, resulting in a hilarious yet heartwarming comedy for the whole family.

Desert Star will present “It’s A Wonderful Life: Winging in The Holidays” on both stages: the original Playhouse Theatre as well as in it’s newer Dinner Theatre. While the show will be the same in both theatres, what differs is the ambiance and dinner selections.

For Playhouse guests, the theatre is charmingly rustic. Food is optional from an á la carte menu and is served right at your table. The menu includes gourmet pizza and hamburgers, fresh wraps, appetizers, and scrumptious desserts.

The Dinner Theatre provides a more upscale experience. The theater itself is elegantly decorated, and a restaurant-quality meal comes before the show. Guests may choose from several holiday meal options. The Dinner Theatre is a perfect option for company parties.

The evening also includes one of Desert Star’s signature musical olios following the show. The “Christmas At Our House” olio features many heartwarming Christmas songs, along with more of Desert Star’s signature screwball comedy.
