Have you ever looked up at the night sky and wondered if we exist on the only livable planet in the universe? This curiosity drives astrobiology, a field that approaches the existence of life in space from many different angles; as chemists who look at molecules crucial to early life on Earth, as astronomers who hunt the night sky for planets livable atmospheres, as biologists who study how life survives in the extreme ecosystems of our own world, and so much more.

Come join AbGradCon, a group of astrobiologists from around the world who gather each year to share our work, for an Astrobiology Star Party on July 23, 2019 at the Crocker Science Center room 206 at 7:30 p.m. at the University of Utah. We’ll explore how the International Space Station makes its own breathable air, and where is life capable of surviving in our solar system. We’ll have live demonstrations and activities, as well as ice cream made with liquid nitrogen! At 9:00 p.m., we head to the adjacent South Physics Observatory to explore the heavens using telescopes.
