Murray District Offers Driver’s Education Registration

Apr 10, 2015 12:49PM ● By Julie Slama
Murray School District will host two different sessions of driver’s education this summer, with registration beginning on Monday, April 6.

First come, first serve registration begins at 7:30 a.m. at the school district office, 147 East 5065 South, or by calling 801-264-7400 (do not leave a message to register that morning). The cost is $95 and payment needs to be made at the time of registration.

The first driver’s ed session will begin Monday, June 8 and ends Friday, June 26.  The second session will begin Monday, July 27 and end Friday, Aug. 14. Each student must have a learner’s permit at the time the class starts and be able to attend every day of class. Sessions are limited to 15 students and students outside Murray District are welcome to register.

“A student needs to take an approved driver’s ed course to get a driver’s license,” Murray District driver’s education coordinator Tricia Blake said. “The student also needs to be 16 years old and have had their learner’s permit for six months.”

A learner’s permit is available to students at age 15.

The first six days of driver’s ed class is for two hours, beginning at 8 a.m. at Murray High School, 5440 S. State St. After day six, the class is from 8:30 to 10:30 am. Some students will drive before class and some will drive after class. If a student drives before class, they need to arrive by 7 a.m. Students driving after class go out to the cars immediately after class ends. These times will rotate.

At the end of the course, students who have been in attendance daily and fulfilled their driving hours will receive a certificate of completion, Blake said.
