A man died Sunday morning as investigators that day scoured the scene where he was shot.

Fred Mustain, 38, died at Intermountain Medical Center about 1 a.m.

Police said a cyclist was riding east at about 9:20 p.m. Saturday on Vine Street when he heard someone yelling for help, Murray Police spokesman Kenny Bass told reporters.

The cyclist found Mustain at a house that’s still under construction at 527 E. Vine St. Mustain was shot in the torso multiple times. Officers arrived and Mustain was immediately transported to IMC, where he died at about 1 a.m., according to reports.

Investigators followed up on leads Sunday after making efforts to gather evidence in the dark the previous night, Bass said. Yellow numbered markers were found for each possible clue or evidence that could help shed light on the shooting, according to reports.

A builder’s sign in front of the house indicates the home is sold. There is no indication that Mustain had any connections to the home, and police aren’t sure yet why Mustain was at the home site or where Mustain is from, though he lives around the area, Bass said.

"It's really surprising to hear about someone actually getting shot, and then end up passing away,” a neighbor, who wanted to remain anonymous, told FOX 13. “It gives me the goosebumps."

Police do not yet have a suspect or person of interest yet.
