The Utah High School Activities Association announced via its social media platforms on Thursday afternoon that all Utah high school athletic competitions, as well as other events overseen by the Association, will be suspended for a period of two weeks.

"In consultation with board directives and information provided by state public health officials, the UHSAA has suspended spring activities to properly fulfill best practices regarding protection of students and the general public," said the statement.

The announcement follows guidance from the state of Utah to avoid gatherings of 100 or more people for a period of two weeks. Those who are sixty years old or older are also advised to avoid gatherings of 20 or more people.

The UHSAA press release announced that the two week suspension will start on Monday, March 16. The State Debate Championships which was scheduled for this weekend,  was cancelled as well.

The decision to forego other matches and activities scheduled for the remainder of this week is being left up to the discretion of the relevant schools and their districts.
