Doused from head to toe in an array of bright colored powders, creating hundreds of vivid color combinations, Grant Elementary’s students created fun memories at their second annual color run.
The fundraising event combines fitness, fun and vibrant colors—as well as volunteerism as more than 50 parents came forward to throw chalk on students, teachers, staff and community members and help with other parts of the event, which included a picnic lunch after the race.
With support from the community, the students raised money for school activities, said Grant Principal Jill Burnside.
“We raised $11,500,” she said. “This money will be used to fund playground equipment, monthly positive rewards for students for positive behaviors for all students and incentives, as well as science supplies, and a T-shirt for each student at the beginning of the year.”
Burnside said some students made and sold lemonade on nearby 700 West to earn funds for the school.
“Our students work hard and care about this event,” she said.
For surpassing the $10,000 goal, Burnside was duct taped by students to a school wall as a reward.
“This is a great community-building activity,” she said. “We are grateful for the support of our families; our students love the opportunity to interact with community members, the support of our community sponsors, and so many parents who come to the school and support us.”
