Families in Murray will have access to free meals for children this summer, thanks to the Murray School District’s Child Nutrition Program.

The program is designed to support families and ensure that no child goes without nutritious meals while school is out for the summer, said Gwen Haycock, general manager of the District’s Child Nutrition Program.

“We offer the same type of menu during the summer as the regular school year,” she said. “In Murray School District, the summer meals program is free to anyone 18 and younger. We have several serving sites through the District.”

Meals will be served at the following locations: Liberty Elementary School, 140 W. 6100 South; Parkside Elementary School, 5175 S. Parkside Drive; Viewmont Elementary School, 745 W. Anderson Ave.; Hillcrest Junior High, 178 E. 5300 South; as well as the Fireclay Apartments (in the parking lot at 4450 South in the Brickgate complex) and Hunters Woods Apartments, 4924 Murray Blvd.

Breakfast will be available at school locations from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and at lunch, from noon to 1 p.m., running from Monday, June 1 through Friday, July 30. Breakfast and lunch at the apartment complexes will be available between 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Meals will not be served on June 15, July 3 and July 24.

Families can view menus online at murrayschools.nutrislice.com/. The six-week rotating menu provides milk, fruits and vegetables daily while juice is available on Tuesday and Thursday.

“We run this program to help the households in need,” said Haycock, who said it meets the requirements from the Utah State Board of Education as well as the federal government. “It is a great program.”
